Texas Size Shopping

Hello! It's me...I'm back. Well I said I had broken down and joined the blogging world, but then never actually wrote any blogs. Hmm. At this rate you can count on quarterly updates? Yes I ended that statement with a question mark. :)

Just last weekend I had an experience that I found blog worthy. I went to the grocery store. One might ask why such a mundane experience might give me such motivation to write on this silly blog thing when I haven't done so since August. If you are asking yourself this question then you obviously haven't been to the new HEB Plus! on Evans and 281.

I remember when I was a young child and I lived in Walla Walla, WA. On a lucky humidity free, sunny Saturday my dad would ask if I wanted to go down to Loneys, the neighborhood grocery store, and get a 39 cent loaf of bread to take to the park and feed to the ducks. The whole event was obviously a highlight of my childhood and probably took about an hour in it's entirety. Going to the grocery store did not mean fighting for a parking spot, trying a million samples, being bombarded to open a credit card, or choosing between organic, frozen, fresh, local grown, or imported foods. We could just go, park, buy bread and leave without a second thought.

These are the days I miss. In light of the many new and forward moving changes our country has made within the past 10 years and more recently within the past week I have to stop and ask myself if some of the changes are really moving us forward. After visiting the new HEB Plus! I had to wonder if bigger is always better; or do we need to take a look at how things used to be and copy that instead? Do I really need to purchase a flat screen TV at my local grocer? Maybe not.

All things aside, Danny and I had quite the fun time walking through this grocery store. When we were finally finished with our shopping, I just couldn't resist being the biggest dork ever and taking a picture of Danny standing beside the worlds largest shopping cart (with a motor) standing in front of the biggest grocery store in the country. I cannot say it will be my go-to store for every shopping experience, but every once in a while I think I can muster up the desire to be over stimulated for a few hours while getting my groceries. And hey--if I can make it through this circus of a grocery store maybe I'll actually finish the upcoming 26.2 miles I have next weekend too. Until then...

A Running Start

Well, I've broken down. I've given in once again and jumped on the bandwagon to the latest "in" thing. I finally created my blog. I was completely against blogging when I first learned of the new trend. After all it is kind of like having a diary for the whole world to read. Clearly, I am over that. I have much enjoyed keeping up with my friends latest happenings through their own blogs so, here I go with mine. With so much going on in every one's lives it is so hard to keep up with friends and family. Here is my attempt at an easy way to let everyone know what the heck I'm up to all the time.

This summer has been filled with relaxation time at the beach, pool, friends houses...much needed after 9 months of first graders. With August almost over and the start of school approaching I am slowly feeling the stress factors coming back to the table. Grad classes, getting my room ready, meetings, kids, and lastly the self-inflicted marathon training. In true Cathy fashion, I do have a full plate in front of me with the start of the school year. Duly noted, however, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Tomorrow is our first day of school for the teachers, so I will try to post a picture of my classroom as it gets closer to actually looking like a classroom. Until then...
